What you do today will determine whether you will have success tomorrow. Success comes as a result of action.” John Eckhardt.

A Step-by-Step Guide:

We have arrived at our new chapter that is 2024. And it’s our time to take the steps to the life and future that we actually want and dream of. It’s the beginning of the year and a great time for us to plan our next moves to take action. The world is ours…

Step 1: Time out for yourself

Let’s start as we mean to go on. This is the year that we build in self care as a priority, which will most definitely include self approved time outs. Find a quiet and comfortable space to allow you to focus. Use this time to go into self reflection and think about your dreams and what you would like to experience and achieve this year.

Step 2: Write your list

Commit and write yourself a long list. Be unapologetically bold when writing. Do not judge yourself or allow any can’t or ‘won’t. Free yourself and reach high with your aspirations, and do not be the blocker of your own blessings.

Step 3: Refine using SMART goals

This is the part where we get organised/orderly by refining your list using SMART–Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time defined:

  • Specific: Clearly describe what you aim to achieve. And what you will do to achieve it. Apply the five ‘W’s:1 1,What do I want to achieve? 2,Why is this goal important to me/others? 3,Who else does this impact? 4,Where is it located? 5,Which resources are required or limits could be a challenge?
  • Measurable: How will you know when you have met your goal? What data will you be used to measure your progress and success?
  • Achievable: Set a target that will stretch and challenge you whilst also being realistic. Do you have aligned skills, resources, and finances? How can you accomplish this goal?
  • Relevant: Your goal should be complimentary to your life plans and values. In what way will the results matter?
    • Will this be worthwhile?
    • Is this the right time?
    • Does this compliment or match the needs/efforts of other thing in your life?
    • Am I the best person to reach this goal?
    • Does it make sense in this current economy?
  • Time-defined: Set a realistic target date to work towards achieving the goal.A time-defined goal will usually answer these questions:
    • When? What can I do today? What can I do in six weeks from now? What can I do in six months from now?

Step 4: Prioritise

Separate all of your goals into two lists:

  1. Priority Goals: These are the goals that you already have the skills and resources for, enabling you to get working on them today.
  2. Significance Goals: Rate these goals based on the potential effect that they will have on your overall life and wellbeing.

Step 5: Divide the year into four quarters

From the significance list, identify the top most important for your first quarter of 2024. And then distribute the rest between the other three quarters of the year.

Step 6: Make it bite size

Create a schedule for each month within each quarter. And then break to bite size by refining into weekly activities and daily behaviours that guide you toward your goals.

Step 7: Visibility

Keep your lists somewhere that will allow you to easily and regularly view them. And to check the progress that you have made. Staying present and on task with your goals will allow you to make adjustments where necessary, along with maintaining consistency.

Step 8: Accountability

Think about all the positive people in your life and find someone who would be a strong and impactful accountability partner or partners if you find a group. This may be a mentor, colleague, friend or family member. Share updates of your progress with them regularly as a means of motivation whilst keeping your activities on task.

Small daily actions are the forward movement that leads to great achievements.

Make the most of your time and opportunities.

This year is going to be incredible!

Let’s get it!
